Plants in The Middle East

In this blog I will document my experience growing plants in the Middle East, specifically Bahrain. Bahrain is a small island off the coast of Saudi Arabia. I believe I have several challenges to overcome, namely the extreme hot weather in summer (50c/122f) and relatively cold winters (5c/41f). The lack of proper materials such as Sphagnum Moss and growing kits is also a problem.

Obviously given the temperatures I tend to grow the more exotic and delicate plants indoors. This would constitute 99% of my activities so far.

My main focus is on carnivorous plants and I am currently successfully growing Venus Fly Traps (Dionaea muscipula), and attempting to grow the Purple Pitcher Plant (Sarracenia) and the Sundew (Drosera Capensis). I am also working with perennials, mainly the Coleus. I will include updates on each “experiment” as I go along.
